First the bad…
Some of the judges comments were quite strong. Some songs were described as “novice” and “juvenile”. But we should not allow that to dishearten us. After all, many of you are indeed novices. We should take the judges’ comments as good feedback and look at how to improve. We have already arranged for some the songs to be re-arranged to improve melodic line and musical quality.
Some of the performances were also weak. It could be that their recording facilities did not allow a better balancing of voice and music. But it could also be that some of the participants just do not have strong singing voices. We are addressing that by looking for alternate singers. After all, this is a song contest and not a singing contest. So what if the composer is not a great singer?
We are calling for all the participants to meet us at Rumah Anak Bangsa Malaysia on Sunday the 25th for us to discuss and work out logistics for the recording sessions.
Which brings me to the good news…
Since we are already working on improving some of the weaker songs…
and since we are thinking of including some bonus tracks…
and since the number of participants is just one more than our target…
we have decided to include all 11 songs in the compilation album!
Hey, you guys took the trouble to participate, you faced the risk of having people criticise your work, you helped us achieve something with this project so, in our eyes, all of you are winners.
So we will be working on polishing up the songs to make them as good as they possibly can be and then we will produce the CDs. These CDs will be used to reach out to the youth of Malaysia, calling on them to stand up for something they believe in.
Watch out for further announcements.
